Financial planners will receive help with explaining share investment concepts to their clients in the form of a new volatility tool designed by global fund manager FidelityAustralia.

Head of adviser business development Meaghan Unsworth said the tool will make basic investment principles easier to understand and clarify issues that may be worrying clients during uncertain times.

“Due to recent uncertainty in the markets, risk and volatility are at the forefront of people’s minds,” Unsworth said.

“Our volatility tool gives investment professionals resources that can help their clients understand why basic investment principles still make sense when investing in volatile times.”

According to Unsworth, Fidelity will release three tools that emphasise the importance of taking a long-term perspective when investing.

The first is an interactive website that explains some of the risks involved when investing in shares, and illustrates how shares have performed over various timeframes.

The second tool is a wall chart that provides a historical overview of Australian and global shares over the past 20 years.

The final tool is an A4-sized handout, which similarly documents the past 30 years of the Australian share market and shows volatility and growth over the past 10 years for global, Australian, Chinese and Indian shares.

The tool can be found at http://www.fidelitytools.com.au
