Select Asset Management has extended its reach into the retail arena, launching a new product aimed at giving retail investors access to unlisted private equity investments.

The new product, Select Private Equity Portfolio, leverages off Select’s relationship with private equity specialist Barwon Investment Partners.

According to Select, the portfolio uses a multi-manager approach to invest in a portfolio of listed and unlisted private equity investments in both Australia and overseas.

Select managing director Brendan Foley said the fund would combine listed and unlisted private equity investments to provide diversification across different private equity stages, vintages, sectors and geographical regions and provide monthly liquidity for retail investors.

Barwon partner Sam Armstrong said the attractions of private equity investment to Australian investors were well documented.

He said the sort of product being brought to the market had not been readily available to retail investors in the past.
