Exchange traded fund (ETF) provider iShares has announced the launch of a new multi-medium education campaign to give investors a better understanding of the ETF market.

A subsidiary of BlackRock Investment Management, iShares, stated that ETF education would be a priority for the business.

As part of the campaign, the company has produced a video entitled 'Understanding ETFs', and added new tracking tools to its website that explain how ETFs work and the potential benefits they provide, iShares stated.

According to iShares, the web tools include a performance chart which examines how closely an iShares ETF follows its benchmark, as well as the ability to view the underlying countries and sectors in a portfolio.

"Australians are very familiar with equities, but are less familiar with ETFs, which is not surprising, considering the first ETF was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange just 10 years ago," said iShares Australia head Mark Oliver.

"We want to be at the forefront of ETF education and knowledge sharing."

According to Oliver, ETFs' risk-return characteristics are similar to index funds, but with the liquidity of shares.

"This can make ETFs an attractive way of accessing multiple market, asset classes and sectors in a cost-effective manner," Oliver said.
