BNP Paribas Investment Partners is establishing an Australian fixed income investment team in response to renewed investor caution to market volatility.

Investment specialist Doyle Mallett has been appointed to form a team in Sydney.

"The establishment of an Australian fixed income capability will add a new dimension to our existing network of specialist investment partners, further extending our product offering to local investors and to global investors via access to the international distribution capabilities of BNP Paribas Investment Partners," said chief executive Robert Harrison.

He said the new team would enable them to capitalise on the renewed interest from investors in considering their exposure to defensive assets in this more volatile environment.

Mallett has more than 25 years experience in managing fixed interest and currency investments for the likes of BT Funds Management, 452 Capital and Austock Asset Management, and will be responsible for making Australian fixed income products available to Australian institutional and retail investors, as well as BNP Paribas Investment Partners' offshore funds seeking exposure to Australian fixed income.
