The man who established Portfolio Partners Limited in 1994, Keith Ince, has been appointed executive vice chairman and head of asset management in Australia by Credit Suisse.

The appointment has been announced by Credit Suisse Asset Management chief operating officer Larry Haber, who said Ince would be responsible for managing the asset management business in Australia during the six-month transition to a permanent head of asset management for Australia.

The appointment follows the announcement earlier this month of the departure of retail funds head Brian Thomas and the announcement of the intended departure at the end of July of chief executive Andrew McKinnon.

Haber said that after this six month transition, Ince, in his capacity as vice chairman of the asset management business in Australia, would play a key role in working with the executive management team and clients to deliver first class financial solutions that meet the needs of Credit Suisse clients.

Ince established Portfolio Partners Limited in 1994 and remained joint chief executive following its acquisition by Norwich Union, until 2001. He was formerly a director and co-founder of County NatWest Investment Management Limited (now Invesco) and Wardley Investment Management Limited (now HSBC Asset Management).

Ince will be based in Sydney and, while reporting to Haber, will be a director of the Credit Suisse Asset Management (Australia) Limited board of directors.
