Alex Hutchinson

Australian Wealth Management(AWM) has appointed Michael Carter as its new head of wealth management division, replacing Alex Hutchinson, who resigned in March to head up fund manager MMC Contrarian.

Carter, who has been acting in the role since Hutchinson’s departure, has “overall accountability and responsibility” for AWM’s financial planning businesses Bridges Financial Services and Wealth Managers.

Carter has more than 20 year’s wealth management experience, five of those with Bridges Financial Services, most recently as general manager of alliances and distribution.

Carter has over 20 years wealth management experience in senior executive roles, including 10 years with Macquarie Bank and five years with NRMA.

AWM managing director Chris Kelaher said Carter’s “previous management experience and extensive knowledge of our business meant that he was a clear choice for this position”.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to build on the strong position of our financial planning businesses in Australia’s wealth management industry.”
