Outsider has never particularly coveted power and so he happily attends lunches and industry events and taps out his stories oblivious to the corporate political machinations which are part and parcel of running a cutting edge financial services publication such as Money Management.

But while Outsider is indifferent to corporate political power plays, recent events in Canberra have taught him that leaders should keep a close eye on their ambitious colleagues and, in particular, their deputies.

That is why Outsider tended to note an upsurge in activity out of the Financial Services Council (FSC) through the latter half of September when FSC chief executive, Sally Loane, was either off on leave or otherwise indisposed.

In Loane's absence, the FSC's director of policy and global markets, Andrew Bragg, made quite a splash in terms of his social media and commentary presence and his utilisation of the title "Acting Chief Executive Officer".

Then, again, a little earlier in the year Bragg had also been acting communications director signalling that he is a man of many talents.

The bottom line is that there was no question about the FSC's profile being maintained at a time of change in Canberra and elsewhere and that Loane had left the organisation in safe hands.
