ANZ has appointed a new chief investment officer (CIO) for its Australian Wealth business.

The big banking group announced it had promoted its head of investment strategy and asset allocation, Mark Rider as CIO for Wealth Australia, effective from 10 March 2017.

It said Rider joined ANZ in 2013 as head of investment strategy and asset allocation where he was responsible for the management of ANZ's $30 billion multi-asset funds in Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to joining ANZ, Rider spent 16 years at UBS in senior economics and global asset management roles and before that spent 10 years at the Reserve Bank of Australia as an economist.

As CIO, Rider will be responsible for delivering the overarching investment strategy, including asset allocation, investment themes, product selection and monitoring.

Commenting on the appointment, group executive Wealth Australia, Alexis George said Rider was a proven investment manager with significant economic experience who was already well known to ANZ Wealth's partners and customers.

Rider succeeds Stewart Brentnall who is leaving ANZ to take up another senior CIO opportunity in the Australian industry.
