Former Mercer principal Ross Cartwright has joined MFS Investment Management as head of platforms in Australia as the firm expands its local presence.

His appointment follows MFS' decision to bring distribution of its Australian and New Zealand business in-house last year and the opening of its first independent sales office in Sydney.

For the past five years, Cartwright has been a principal and senior investment consultant with Mercer Investment Consulting.

In his new role, he will focus on platform development and sales in Australia and New Zealand in addition to working with research houses.

"Ross will bring valuable experience to MFS in Australia and to our platform clients and prospects," MFS senior managing director - Australia, Marian Poirier said.

Cartwright will be based in MFS' Sydney office, where the distribution team currently encompasses sales and relationship management, marketing, reporting, client services, legal and compliance.

According to MFS, funds under management for its Australian and New Zealand clients are at $17.3 billion.
