TAL has appointed former OnePath Life Risk head of finance and strategy Fred Rowley as chief actuary.

Reporting to TAL chief financial officer Kent Griffin, Rowley will lead the actuarial team to provide value-adding advice to the executive team and to the board.

He was most recently principal at consultancy Professional Financial Solutions and previously worked as chief actuary at AMP. In addition, he served as president of the Actuaries Institute in 2007.

"Fred is a highly skilled senior manager and actuary who has extensive industry experience in both Australia and the UK," Griffin said.

"We look forward to seeing him leverage this expertise to drive our actuarial strategy and support the business in its ambition of bringing life insurance to more Australians."
