Former UBS Asset Management employee, Jonathon Baird is joining Western Asset in a newly-created dual role of fixed interest investment specialist and client executive, helping the Legg Mason affiliate firm to boost its bonds profile.

Baird would be based in Melbourne in the new position and would advise clients in the fixed interest space.

“We have created this role in response to the increased level of interests for our bond funds,” Western Asset Australia head, Anthony Kirkham, said.

“In this low interest world investors are keen to construct a well-diversified and balanced portfolio and to utilise best of breed fixed income strategies. Jonathan has the experience and expertise to work with clients in this regard.”

Baird formerly held the Sydney-based position of investment specialist at UBS Asset Management and previously worked as an analyst at Australian Unity Investments and Zenith.

Tasked with the responsibility for the management of client interests across the Legg Mason Western Asset fund range, Baird said he would cover both Australian and global strategies.

“I look forward to working with new and existing clients to develop the best investment strategies for the current environment,” he said.
