ANZ’s long-serving Chief Risk Officer, Nigel Williams, will be retiring from the role early next year.

The big banking group announced Williams’ retirement to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) this week, saying it would bring to a close a banking career which had lasted 33 years.

ANZ said it expected to announce a successor to Williams early next year.

Williams joined ANZ following its 2004 acquisition of the National Bank of New Zealand.

He has held a number of leadership roles within ANZ including managing director, Institutional Corporate and Commercial Banking in New Zealand and managing director, Institutional, Australia.

He has been Chief Risk Officer since 2011.
