Why you should be suitably cynical on long/short in 2018

Investors would do well to take an objective approach to long/short strategies as they move into 2018, according to Stephen van Eyk.
van Eyk, a keynote speaker at Money Management’s upcoming Investment Analyst Forum webinar http://www.moneymanagement.com.au/events/webinars/analyst-forecast-forum-ask-experts scheduled for 30 January, said that while there was no doubt that long/short strategies had rewarded investors over the past two months, this needed to be weighed against the upturn in the market generally.
“Investors need to be careful to check the portfolio because funds that should be neutral can go long in shares and gear – something that can have unexpected consequences,” he said.
van Eyk will be setting the investment scene for 2018 via the Money Management webinar, backed by Insight Investment’s Adam Kibble and Premium China Fund’s Jonathan Wu.
