What it takes to get six stars
THEInvestorWeb ResearchSix Star Awards have been designed to identify and publicly recognise those fund managers that InvestorWeb attests to be premier fund managers within the Australian marketplace.
Using a balance of both qualitative and quantitative criteria, 17 managers across 10 investment categories have achieved the prestigious status of six star funds. Ten winners have been identified from these managers based on the InvestorWeb stringent assessment criteria.
The funds that have been awarded the six star rating include a mixture of well-established fund managers and products, and emerging managers and funds. All managers, regardless of category, shared the same important attributes in being awarded the six star rating.
These attributes include a highly regarded investment team, a transparent and well-articulated investment process, a thorough security selection methodology and approach, a robust portfolio construction approach, the application and adherence to strong risk management guidelines, and comprehensive portfolio monitoring and review.
From a quantitative aspect, all managers have achieved excellent risk-adjusted returns over a medium to longer term and in our assessment, are well placed to continue to do so in the future.
The possible 33 six star awards have been shared among 21 different managers, and the winners of the 10 categories have been shared among eight different managers. This demonstrates the depth of management and competition within the Australian funds management industry, and shows that it is without doubt, in a very healthy state.
