A super 2006 for share options
One of the better performing investment strategies employed by superannuation funds in 2006 were multi-sector options with high weightings to local shares, according to researcher Morningstar.
In releasing the superannuation performance figures for last year, the researcher indicated that Australians whose superannuation was invested in share options also did better in calendar 2006 than super funds with more conservative investments in bonds and cash.
The strong performance of Australian shares last year saw investors with a greater appetite for risk being well-rewarded, with investments in growth-style options outperforming their value-style counterparts.
Australian and global listed property super funds ranked as the best performing sectors for 2006, while at the other end of the scale, superannuation strategies that invested in fixed interest and cash produced the lowest returns.
The best performing share super funds were those invested in smaller-sized companies and when comparing international to domestic shares, the local option came out on top.
