State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) has launched a new product — a Global Managed Volatility Alpha strategy.

The product is being marketed as an active global equities solution for local investors, which puts investors' financial goals at the centre of portfolio construction, rather than a traditional market capitalisation index.

It said the product, launched over four years ago in the US, will now be available in Australia and accessible through superannuation funds, the financial advice industry and investment platforms.

SSgA said it would be available via both segregated mandates and a managed investment scheme structure alongside the active Australian Managed Volatility Alpha (Australian MVA) strategy, which was established in October 2009 as part of the Managed Volatility Alpha Series.

SSgA said the strategies focus on delivering strong absolute returns to investors while managing risk.

The global strategy also offers dynamic currency management by SSgA's Asia Pacific currency team to reduce currency risk for AUD investors.
