Mutual bank leads with video call centre
Defence Bank - the mutual bank formed out of the old Defence Force Credit Union - announced this week it had established Australia's first video call centre at its Melbourne head office.
It said the new service would allow the bank's customers to talk face-to-face from their homes with a banking consultant.
Announcing the launch of the new service, Defence Bank chief executive Jon Linehan described it as a significant innovation which would have substantial benefits for Defence Force personnel, many of whom found it difficult getting to a branch to conduct their business.
"We know that when people are conducting a major financial transaction, such as applying for a home loan or organising their superannuation, they prefer being able to do it in person. This technology allows this to happen," he said.
