IOSCO Board announces new chair

Hong Kong Securities and Investment Commission (SFC) chief executive, Ashley Alder, will take on the role of chair at the IOSCO, replacing Greg Medcraft.
Prior to his placement on the IOSCO board, Alder also served as the chair of IOSCO's Asia-Pacific Regional Committee from 2013 until 2016 and had chaired the organisations' task force on cross-border regulation.
The new board, constituted in Lima, has 34 international members and was previously lead by Australia Securities and Investment Commissions (ASIC) chairman, Greg Medcraft.
IOSCO's 2016-2020 strategic plan was recently put forward by Medcraft, with IOSCO acknowledging his long standing contribution; stating a staunch belief in periodic renewal, Medcraft did not seek a third term in the position.
Backed by an extra $122 million in funding from the federal government, Medcraft will continue in his position as ASIC chairman, after his term was recently extended for a further 18 months.
