FOS appoints investments and advice ombudsman

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has appointed June Smith as its new lead ombudsman (investments and advice), it said in an announcement.
As an internal appointment, Smith is currently the general manager of Code and Compliance and Monitoring at FOS, and chief executive of the Code Compliance Monitoring Committee for the Code of Banking Practice.
Smith has experience in the financial planning and related sectors, well-developed relationships with regulators, industry and consumer groups, and a track record as an independent decision maker, the FOS said.
Smith has worked on developing the role of codes of practice to improve customer services, along with her efforts in promoting professional standards and business ethics in the financial advice industry.
Last year, Smith was appointed the Financial Planning Association of Australia's (FPA) chair of its Conduct Review Commission (CRC), the body monitoring the conduct of FPA members.
