Further evidence of the movement of accountants into financial planning will be apparent when CPA Australia hosts its first conference on financial planning late next month.

CPA Australia sales and marketing coordinator Le Yen Boc says hosting the conference reflects the growing interest in the financial services of its 93,000 members.

Scheduled to kick off on February 22 at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, the conference will include a number of the industry's well known names in the roles of keynote and session speakers.

The conference will open with a keynote panel session chaired by Guardian Associates director Mike Gehde and will cover choosing the right business model. Panelists include Stockford general manager Mark Rantall, Baldry Financial Group director Suzanne Baldry and Count Wealth managing director Barry Lambert.

CPA Australia's own Brad Pragnell and Kathy Streeter will head up a session on the impact of the Financial Services Reform Bill on CPAs while 21st Century Business Strategies principal Michael Harrison will address the perils of ignoring risk business.

Dr John Hewson, former Federal Liberal Party leader and now non-executive chairman of ABN AMRO will open the second day with a look at the economy and the political environment through the year. This will be followed by a choice of sessions run concurrently on superannuation by Morrows director, Murray Wyatt, or on portfolio construction by ProQuest managing director Paul Resnik.

Best-selling author Bryce Courtney will be close the conference in a light hearted session encouraging attendees to embrace change and attempt the impossible.
