Copia expands regional adviser distribution team

Copia Investment Partners has announced the appointment of Adam Tweedale to its distribution team, working with advisers across Victoria, Western Australia, and Tasmania.
Tweedale previously worked at Copia for almost four years before departing in September 2018 to join Lazard Asset Management as a senior business development manager (BDM). He also worked at Bennelong Funds Management and Vanguard.
He has now returned to Copia to service financial advisers in Victoria, alongside distribution manager for institutional and retail, Mani Papakonstantinos. He will also oversee relationships with advisers in Western Australia and Tasmania.
John Clothier, general manager for distribution at Copia, said: “Adam brings a wealth of experience in distribution and relationship management. We welcome his strong industry knowledge and track record in adviser engagement as we continue to expand our footprint nationally.”
Independent investment manager Copia distributes financial products through partnerships with OC Funds Management, Chester Asset Management, ECP Asset Management, Mutual Limited, Artisan Partners, TT International, and HSBC Asset Management.
The role of BDMs has become increasingly important to financial advisers as the number of available funds increase in range and complexity, especially in the alternatives space.
While providing support to advisers has long been part of the BDM’s job, the educational guidance they deliver has become even more important as advisers navigate alternatives and private market funds.
“Advisers are relying on the distribution professionals to provide the education insight when considering a private assets fund. There’s a lot more investment products in the market, so advisers have a lot more choice, but the BDM’s job is to educate the adviser on their fund offering and how it could fit in their clients’ portfolios,” Fabian Ruggieri, founder and director at RIVA Recruitment, said.
Last year, Copia announced an Australian distribution partnership with HSBC Asset Management to deliver the HSBC Global Infrastructure Equity Fund to Australian retail investors, which has been available to institutional and wholesale HSBC clients globally since 2022.
The active fund aims to provide long-term total returns, and invests in a diversified portfolio of listed infrastructure assets across four sector verticals: utilities, energy, transportation, and communications.
