LonsdaleFinancial Group has established an online business support service for accountants including those offering financial planning services.

Accountants Business Support Service (ABSS) general manager Michael Hodgins says the service, currently in its final stages, has been developed over the past 12 months by Lonsdale accountants consulting with small to medium accountancy practices.

“It became apparent there were areas not being tackled by others on the market. We saw a gap in the market to provide a centralised offering and meet accountants’ needs,” Hodgins says.

ABSS services include back-end technology such as knowledge management tools, a Web-based extranet with back-end accounting tools, and an employee development and training programs.

Accountants also have access to a human resources and training manager, and can choose to badge the service and run their own networks through the server.

Hodgins says the opportunity for smaller accounting practices to become part of an alliance and network of information is one of the key strengths of the service, and offers accountants the same benefits as a consolidator.

ABSS is due to be offered to a number of firms at the end of February, with a general release expected for March. However, Hodgins says the service has already been presented to about 20 practices and been well received.
