The reinsurance division of Willis Towers Watson, Willis Re, appointed John Philipsz as deputy chief executive officer and Karl Jones as head of catastrophe analytics.

Philipsz joined the team from Willis Towers Watson Securities, which was based in London before it launched its Sydney office in 2015, and was appointed co-head of Asia-Pacific in 2016.

He also held various roles at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America.

Jones was previously based in Sydney with Willis Re until 2015, and would move from London back to Sydney in the first quarter of this year to commence hiss role.

The firm also announced that Warren Dresner, head of broking, would relocate to Miami as a senior member of Willis Re’s Latin America business.

Cameron Green, CEO of Willis Re Australia, said the role of the reinsurance broker had evolved in recent years and the new appointments would strengthen the firm’s operations in the Australian market to drive the next phase of growth.
