Pinnacle backs launch of private markets managed account model

Pinnacle Investment Management has made a strategic investment in private capital investment firm FinCap to support a new managed accounts platform.
The private managed accounts platform will target Australian advisers and their wholesale clients to deliver institutional-quality access to private market investments, including private equity, private credit and real assets, via a managed account structure.
This strategy, the firm said, will combine the “transparency and control of traditional managed accounts with the depth and diversification of private markets”.
As advisers, consultants and research houses seek scalable and compliant access to alternatives, demand for private managed accounts has grown and is emerging as a high-growth segment in the financial services sector.
Looking globally, FinCap said, institutions and private wealth groups are calling for more simplified ways to allocate private assets, without the need to sacrifice on governance or customisation.
The platform itself will be powered by technology based on OpenInvest’s infrastructure, adapted by FinCap to meet the complex demands of private market investing, including liquidity management, portfolio construction, and institutional-grade reporting.
As stated by FinCap, the new platform is designed to support a range of engagement models, including FinCap-branded offerings and white-label solutions, as well as bespoke implementations guided by consultants and advisers.
Pinnacle founder and managing director Ian Macoun said: "The managed accounts segment – particularly in private markets – is still nascent in Australia. However, the pace of tech innovation in this area is accelerating and it will soon play a fundamentally important role in helping advisers deliver scalable, customised private market exposure, through structures that better align with client needs.”
“FinCap brings deep experience and a clear strategic vision to this opportunity, so we’re proud to support the launch of the managed accounts platform, and to back a solution we see as becoming increasingly important in delivering high-quality private market investment capabilities to a broader set of investors.”
Adding to this, FinCap founder and chairman Christian Ryan said after working with advisers and investors for more than two decades, there was a clear challenge when it comes to accessing high-quality private market opportunities without the friction of traditional fund structures.
“This platform reflects that demand. It combines deep private markets expertise, fit-for-purpose scalable technology, and a structure that resonates with advisers. Pinnacle’s backing gives us the capability and confidence to lead in this segment,” Ryan said.
