New life for NatMut veteran
Former National Mutual executive director Ian Ferres is to join the Australian Unity board.
Ferres was at National Mutual for more than 30 years. He ran the Australian investments for a number of years and was also managing director of National Mutual's international investment arm Meridian Global Funds Management.
Ferres says the growth of Australian Unity's fund management business has been a key factor in his decision to join the board.
"The business as a whole is growing steadily, but I have been particularly impressed with the funds management area where its growth strategy has been very successful," he says.
Ferres says he also wants to help see the health business grow, having been chairman of Monash Medical Centre's private hospital for a number of years.
Ferres is still highly regarded in the financial services industry and the move is seen as a coup for Australian Unity. It is expected he will play an active role in boosting the funds management business as the friendly repositions itself as a fund manager.
