More pension flexibility for Polish clients
People who have lived part of their adult lives in both Australia and Poland will be able to claim pension entitlements from both countries following the creation of a new social security agreement.
Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Stephen Smith, and Poland’s Minister for Labour, Jolanta Fedak, signed the Australia-Poland Social Security Agreement this week in Warsaw.
According to the Australian Government, there are more than 160,000 people of Polish ancestry living in Australia, many of whom came to Australia in the post World War II period as well as in the 1980s following the imposition of martial law.
The agreement will allow adults who have lived between the countries to take advantage of their accumulated savings. This is the first visit to Poland by an Australian Foreign Minister since 2002.
Smith said he was also briefed by members of the Australian business community on their trade and investment experiences in Poland.
