Financial planning not viewed as glamorous
There is a lack of understanding among university students and graduates about career prospects available in financial planning, according to Financial Planning Association (FPA) chief executive, Dante De Gori.
De Gori told a panel discussion at this week's Financial Services Council (FSC) Leader's Summit in Melbourne that his organisation's research suggested that students were more attracted to investment planning and that there was a lack of awareness that financial planning was even an option.
However, he said that once the options available in financial planning were made clear to students, their attitudes tended to change.
De Gori said that misconceptions existed about financial planning, with many students thinking it was about number-crunching and therefore not a very glamorous career.
"We've got a big job in front of us in winning the hearts and minds of graduates," he said.
