The former global head of securitisation at Societe Generale in New York, Greg Medcraft, has been appointed to head up the Australian securitisation industry’s peak representative body, the Australian Securitisation Forum (ASF).

ASF chairman Phil Vernon said Medcraft’s appointment would strengthen the organisation’s capacity to lead the industry at a time when constraints in global credit and liquidity markets require a shift in thinking.

“The current market challenges highlight the need for the industry to work closely with issuers, investors and regulators to develop solutions that deliver long-term stability and solvency to the financial system,” he said.

Medcraft was last in Australia in the early 1990s when he established Societe Generale’s Australian and Asian businesses.
