Accountants ‘feeding ground’ for financial advice: AFA
Accounting graduates may prove the "feeding ground" for the evolving financial advice space, according to the head of the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).
Speaking at the Value Alliance's annual function, AFA CEO Brad Fox said accounting is the vocation financial advice is most likely to parallel in the trust and professionalism stakes once it completes its reformation.
He said financial advisers still tail doctors, lawyers and accountants when it came to professional values, but "the one that we're likely to prove a parallel with would be accountants".
Accounting has been dealt a number of challenges in the last few years, he said, particularly with the automation of workflows.
As a result, convergence between accounting and financial advice is likely, he said.
"I suspect perhaps accounting graduates might be the great feeding ground for the future of financial advice," he said.
