The Rating the Raters survey 2005 was conducted using an online questionnaire and took place during February 2005.

Fund managers were asked to rate researchers on areas such as research methodology, transparency, quality of personnel and ability to influence inflows, looking at both the sector as a whole and individual research companies.

A total of seven research houses were listed in the questionnaire for respondents to rate. While this list is not exhaustive, and does not include researchers working in specialist areas, surveys by Money Management in recent years show that these firms have the greatest market share in terms of rating fund managers.

Forty fund management organisations responded to this year’s survey, with assets totalling over $370 billion. This ranged from small boutique firms to large multi-national groups, offering a variety of investment options, including Australian and international equities, credit, fixed interest, alternative and ethical investments, mortgage funds, and property trusts.
