An ode to the women in financial services

Outsider can by no means claim to be the most prudish fellow in the room, but even he has been left gasping at some of the things coming from the mouth of entrepreneur, reality star, and all round buffoon, presidential nominee, Donald Trump. Ah America, where anyone can grow up to be president.

It seems a little dangerous, however, when that someone is an Oompa Loompa who believes he can lay his hands on any woman he sees. The US presidential race has been filled with sexual assault allegations from various women, derogatory comments on a bus against one particular woman, and an exchange of slings and arrows of allegations of affairs and misbehaviour between past presidents, and aspirant future presidents. Race to the bottom. No pun intended.

It was therefore heartening and a welcome relief for Outsider to sift through the submissions of stellar candidates for our Women in Financial Services Awards 2016. He and his team read about women thriving in leadership roles and entrepreneurial roles, and others who sacrificed their time to give back to communities through their pro bono work, those who spent decades advocating for policy, and those who had put their hands up for board positions, or even awards such as this one. It was just what the doctor ordered, and a perfect antidote to the rather sordid goings-on being reported out of the US presidential race.

Congratulations to all the winners at the awards, which was held on 20 October. Special mention to Deborah Kent for getting the gong for Woman of the Year.

The team at Money Management feels inspired. Who knows, Outsider might even be a woman. He is certainly blushing.
