Outsider doffs his hats to the chaps and chappettes of the Association of Financial Advisers, led by chief executive, Phil Kewin, who completed the Kokoda Trail trek to raise funds for charity.

The group, which included Kewin, Alisdair Barr, Ross Barnwell, Brad Fox, Russell Hannah, Michael Molloy, David Mounsey, Adrian Raftery, Nathan Taggart and Cara Williams, completed the 96-kilometre trek between 24 August and 2 September and managed to raise $117,00, so all credit to them.

And unless Outsider’s memory is failing him, he believes it was the second time across Kokoda for former AFA president and chief executive, Brad Fox, which suggests he is a glutton for punishment in more ways than one.

The funds raised will be distributed by the AFA Foundation which gives generously to a number of charities including Legacy, The Black Dog Institute, MS Research Australia, Make a Wish Foundation and Bears for Hope.

As tough as the trek may have been, Outsider wonders whether it still represented a welcome break from the challenges presented by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority processes and the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. Probably it did.

Outsider wishes to remind Brad Fox of the advice Outsider provided to him the first time Fox announced he was going to trek Kokoda – “when you feel like exercising, lie down, the mood will pass”.
