Kaplan Professional has developed an intensive program for accountants that cover the advice giving process in view of the 1 July deadline for the scrapping of the accountants' exemption to give advice on self-managed superannuation funds (SMSF).

The financial services education provider has developed the Intensive Limited Licence Program for Qualifying Accountants, which would include a challenge test and skills-based workshops on how to develop strategic recommendations in the advice process, and translate that into a statement of advice (SOA) format.

Kaplan Professional chief executive, Brian Knight, said there would be three weekly face-to-face workshops in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne including weekend options, and the program would also allow accountants to complete the program in a timeframe that suits them.

"We know many qualifying accountants need the limited AFSL (Australian financial services licence) to continue to be a trusted adviser to their clients," Knight said.

The exemption is not going to be repealed, so it is all about supporting experienced qualifying accountants through this transition that will ultimately shape their core business. It would be unfortunate to see some limit their options by not completing the necessary training."

The program would be suited for certified practising accountants, chartered accountants and members — Institute of Public Accountants looking for a limited AFSL.
