Accounting was the fastest-moving profession in the last quarter with external auditors taking out the top spot for job vacancies, according to the latest figures from SEEK.

Of the 28 industries and 400 job types taken into account, job ads for external auditors were up 81 per cent nationally, led by Queensland (216 per cent) and Victoria (163 per cent), according to SEEK.

This was followed by internal auditors — which grew by 47 per cent — and accounts officers/clerks at 24 per cent.

"February is usually a time when organisations are getting on top of their finances and preparing for the end of the financial year, which could explain the influx of job ads on SEEK for both internal and external auditors," SEEK spokesperson Fiona Le Broq said.
