Morethan a dozen people have indicated they will run for one of four positions up for election on the board of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

Money Managementhas confirmed that long-term industry veteran and ex-head of Bridges, Colin Scully, consultant Sarah Brennan and the Australian Stock Exchange’s (ASX) Mark Spiers are among those vying for a place on the board.

Also confirmed are financial planners Trevor Rehn from South Australia, Gavin Wright and Dominic Alafaci from Victoria, Julie-Anne Berry from New South Wales and Leonie Henry from Queensland.

It is also understood that Victorian planner Corinna Deiters, as well as Canberra adviser Phillip Thompson, are interested in running for the board and have been nominated to stand.

The four outgoing board members are David Middleton from Western Australia, Greg Gunther from Queensland, Kevin Bailey from Victoria and Kate Stephenson from Tasmania, who must stand down after having served two terms on the board.

The four board positions are general member roles and will be voted on by the entire FPA membership. A fifth board position is also up for grabs as the FPA must fill the dealer member position made vacant by AMP’s Steve Helmich, who has taken on the role as chair of the board.

This position is open to dealer members and will not be put to a ballot of general members, but rather decided by the dealer members of the association.

It is believed the FPA has also asked the board’s sole external director, David Elsum, to remain for another 12 months as the association goes through the transitional period with the new board members.

The FPA will send out ballot papers in the next two weeks as part of its timetable to ensure it can hold elections for the board at the association’s annual general meeting to be held in Sydney in November.
