Following the various doings of former CPA Australia boss, Alex Malley meant Outsider became somewhat inured to chief executives utilising their oganisation’s social media channels to reflect their own activities, but this cynical old hack had hoped such practices would not extend to financial services regulators.

But there it was. On the first working Tuesday following the AFL Grand Final, Outsider found himself confronted by a photographic “tweet” from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission media team depicting ASIC chairman, Greg Medcraft, celebrating the long-awaited triumph of the Richmond Tigers.

Given that the ASIC media team more often than not use their social media channels to tell of the banning of advisers or other miscreants, Outsider should probably have viewed the happy Medcraft tweet as a positive but, somehow, he was simply reminded of the ASIC chairman’s strong support for Alex Malley when he launched CPA Advice.

On the upside, the photograph appears to show Medcraft enjoying the Tiger’s victory from the comfort of his home meaning that, unlike the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop, he could not be accused of attending the Grand Final at the tax-payer’s expense.

Of course, Medcraft is on count-down to depart his role as ASIC chairman, and so Outsider has decided to make this mention of the former Societe Generaler his last and offer him these almost apposite few lines from the Richmond Tigers club song:

We'll fight and fight and win
For we're from Tigerland
We never weaken til the final siren's gone
Like the Tiger of old
We're strong and we're bold
For we're from Tiger
Yellow and Black
We're from Tigerland.
