Former J.P. Morgan Australia and New Zealand chief executive, Rob Priestley has been appointed to the board of the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

The ASX announced that Priestley had been appointed as a non-executive director and would stand for election at the company’s annual general meeting in September.

The appointment follows on from the ASX’s 2016 AGM at which its chairman, Rick Holliday-Smith foreshadowed that the Board would appoint an additional non-executive director following the appointment of Dominic Stevens as the ASX’s chief executive.

Commenting on the appointment, Holliday-Smith noted that Priestley had over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry and had worked in capital markets around the world.

“As a former CEO he has strong leadership, strategy and governance skills, and his international and local experience will bring valuable insights into the needs and concerns of the financial institutions that are ASX’s customers,” he said.
