MLC Life Insurance has expanded its retail advised team to help focus on the development of longevity solutions and to drive a new direction in underwriting.

The team would be led by the chief customer officer of retailed advised insurance, Melissa Heyhoe, who said the team, along with the backing of Nippon Life, would enable the firm to continue to improve protection solutions for customers at any stage of life.

"We are also committed to providing advisers and customers with new solutions by developing our longevity product offer," Heyhoe said.

"In addition, we'll be innovating in underwriting which, across the industry, has been focused on identifying customers' faults and what's wrong with them.

"By using technology and data to ask our customers only the right questions, we ensure our customers also tell us all the positive aspects of their health as well."

Russell Hannah will take up the newly created role of general manager, retail adviser insurance sales, to oversee distribution and sales, key account management, specialist insurance functions as well as sale analytics and insights.

Adrienne Cochrane, who joined from AMP, has been appointed as head of customer solutions, longevity and insurance, Charlotte Sheehan as head of customer experience and retention, and Simon Dent has joined as head of underwriting and new business.

Christopher Ong also joins the team and was appointed into the role of head of pricing and profitability in March 2016.
