Zurich Financial Serviceshas created the new Sydney-based role of assistant head of group sales, which the group hopes will help co-ordinate its key accounts, master trust, risk, investment and life sales strategies.

The group says the creation of the new role is also part of its current increased sales push in life risk and managed funds.

Janet Smith, who has joined the group in the position, has 14 years experience in the financial services industry, having worked with the Prudential Corporation in both Australia and Asia in a number of roles.

Smith’s most recent role was director of distribution - advisers channel with Prudential in Singapore, while other roles included general manager of financial planning with Investec Private Bank, and general manager of licensed financial services with the Colonial Group.

Smith will report to Zurich head of group sales Steve Newnham, who says her main areas of focus will be the development and implementation of the key accounts and master trust strategies.

Newnham says Smith’s appointment will allow him to spend more time investigating opportunities in other areas such as life risk, investment, platforms and services.
