The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA), in conjunction with TAL, have announced the finalists for the 2016 AFA Female Excellence in Advice Award, which recognises the industry's positive progress toward recognising women in senior positions.

AFA chief executive, Brad Fox, said that the awards signalled a positive change for the future and was a good indication of the contributions of female planners and advisers in the country.

"Female advisers play a vital role in our industry in providing Australians with better access and more choice over who they partner with on their financial journeys," he said.

"As a result, the Australian advice industry continues to get better."

The winner of the award would be announced in Canberra at the AFA National Adviser Conference from October 5-7.

TAL general manager of retail distribution, Niall McConville, said the award was good for the industry and would help foster and recognise professional development of female advisers and the benefits of financial diversity.

"Over the course of the last few years, the professional standard of the industry, and specifically the investment women are making in their careers, continues to grow," he said.

"TAL has long supported gender equality and believes strongly in greater representation of women in financial services."

The Award finalists are:

Amanda Cassar Director and Financial Advise Wealth Planning Partners
Lea Schodel Financial Adviser MHP Private Wealth
Patricia Peters Director and Certified Financial Planner Peters McKeown
Peita Diamantidis Co-Founder and Financial Adviser Caboodle Financial Services
Susan Rallings Senior Vice President Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
