The New Zealand and Australian chartered accountant professional bodies may become one institute if a recent proposal to unite them is successful.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) unanimously agreed to hold a vote following three months consultation with members.
NZICA board chair Graham Crombie said the new institute had received widespread support from its members while ICAA president Tim Gullifer said the proposal had been timed well.
"In a global environment we need to stay ahead and the one new institute would give us the scale and strength we need; a larger, more sustainable body with increased policy formulation and advocacy capability as well as greater global influence," he said.
Voting will occur throughout the month of October with results announced in November.
