A Newcastle man who allegedly created three businesses to lodge 11 false activity statements resulting in GST refunds of more than $111,000 being paid, was sentenced to 24 months jail by the Newcastle District Court.
Craig Keith Phillips, 30, pleaded guilty to 11 charges relating to obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
The Australian Taxation Office alleged that Phillips attempted to claim a further $39,424, which was stopped by tax office investigations.
