A new specialist emerging markets fund has kicked off offering investors access to a concentrated portfolio of stocks in markets such as South Africa, India, Poland, Egypt and Brazil.
The new fund is the first offering from Remerga, headed by former Towers Watson staffer Craig Mercer and his fellow co-founder, Warwick Johnson.
The company said the Emerging Markets Sustainable Leaders Fund was open for subscriptions and offers and made its stock selection decisions using a combination of quantitative factors and deep due diligence on sustainability or environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
“Emerging markets investing is fraught with complex challenges,” Mercer said, noting that 30 per cent of the emerging markets benchmark is made up of state-owned enterprises, which may have objectives that do not align with those of minority investors.
“We focus heavily on alignments of interest with investors,” he said.
