UBS GLOBAL Asset Management has won the InvestorWeb Research Six Star Fund Manager of the Year Award, ahead of Macquarie Investment Management and Perpetual Investments.
The recognition closely follows the recent announcement of UBS as theMoney Management/Assirt Fund Manager of the Year.
UBS was rated the year’s best manager in the Australian fixed interest, multi-sector and property securities categories to take out theMoney Managementaward.
According to InvestorWeb, managers must also have won one or more asset class categories or sectors to be eligible for the Six Star Fund Manager of the Year Award. Managers must also have exhibited outstanding performance in all their managed funds.
From the 21 managers that hold six-star fund status from InvestorWeb, 11 winners over eight asset classes were awarded.
Macquarie Investment Management won the Superannuation Fund Manager of the Year title, ahead of nominees AMP Henderson Global Investors and Colonial First State Investments.
The InvestorWeb Research Rising Star Award, a new category introduced this year, was awarded to Schroder Investment Management Australia, ahead of ABN AMRO Asset Management Australia and BT Funds Management.
The rising star category was designed to identify emerging performers in a particular asset class or classes in the near future, InvestorWeb says.
“The category is not restricted to ‘boutique’ managers and therefore covers the full universe of managers participating in the InvestorWeb Research manager review process. This year’s nominations include an interesting combination of established and relatively recent entrants to the Australian funds management industry,” InvestorWeb says.
The Australian equities large cap Six Star Fund category was taken out by UBS’ Australian Share Fund, while the Australian equities small cap Six Star Fund category was won by Colonial First State’s Developing Companies fund.
The international equities fund category was won by Credit Suisse’s Private Investments International Shares fund, ahead of AXA’s Global Equity Value Fund and the JB Were International Fund.
“All managers, regardless of category, shared the same important attributes in being awarded the prestigious Six Star award. These attributes include a highly regarded investment team, a transparent and well articulated investment process, a thorough security selection methodology and approach, a robust portfolio construction approach, the application and adherence to strong risk management guidelines, and comprehensive portfolio monitoring and review,” InvestorWeb says.
