The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has launched a Future Financial Planners Council to address the personnel shortage in the financial planning profession.
The council will focus on “raising awareness of financial planning as an exciting, rewarding and diverse career option”, according to FPA chief executive Jo-Anne Bloch.
“Financial planning is a relatively young profession by comparison to other professions and isn’t as well known, particularly to young people considering career options,” she said.
Colonial First State general manager of distribution and head of Financial Wisdom Paul Barrett will be the first chair of the council.
Among its key objectives will be developing FPA programs targeted at universities, vocational and other students and graduates to raise awareness.
Another will be to develop consistent marketing material for use by all FPA members that highlights career pathways, education requirements and professional standards.
