That is Outsider’s question after reading an announcement from Westpac that it is launching a voice payment system and that people such as your venerable and increasingly cantankerous correspondent should embrace this new system.
If Outsider is to believe Westpac, which in these days of Royal Commissions is unlikely, new research conducted by the bank has revealed one in two (48 per cent) of Australians use a voice assistant on their smartphone, with a third of this group using it at least once a day.
Last time Outsider looked, 52 per cent was a parliamentary majority and Outsider is clearly a 52 per center.
Note to Westpac, Outsider and his mates at the golf club have only ever encountered the aforementioned “voice assistant” when they pushed the wrong button on their phones and notwithstanding its pleasant female timbre told it to bugger off.
Given how hard Outsider finds it to get a sensible answer out of his bank, he won’t be asking this Siri person to pay his bills but he will certainly be using his finger to do the talking.
