A former Tasmanian insurance broker has been found guilty on six counts of dishonest conduct in relation to financial products and services and two counts of failure to provide written particulars of fees and charges.
The Launceston Magistrates Court found that Brendan Maxwell Manion, of Launceston Tasmania, dishonestly failed to disclose the broker fees on invoices issued for insurance cover by Brendan Manion Specialist Insurance Intermediary Pty Ltd (BMSII).
Manion was the sole director and principal of BMSII.
The charges followed an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) into Manion’s conduct as an insurance broker between July 2, 2001, and September 30, 2004.
This follows Manion’s guilty plea before the court on a previous occasion to altering books in his possession that were required to be produced to ASIC.
Both matters have been adjourned to September 25, 2009, for sentencing.
