Former Federal Labor Minister, Lindsay Tanner, has been appointed to the board of big Queensland-based institution, Suncorp.
Tanner’s appointment was announced to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) this week with the company stating the former minister would take up his appointment effective from 1 January, next year, filling one of the vacancies created by the retirements of Bill Bartlett and Ewoud Kulk.
Confirming Tanner’s appointment, Suncorp chairman, Ziggy Switkowski said the former minister brought a wide range of relevant public and private sector experience in financial services with an acute appreciation of the technological, regulatory and political changes shaping the industry.
Tanner was a personal injuries lawyer before moving into politics where he served as Minister for Finance in both the Rudd and Gillard Governments.
Since leaving Parliament in 2010, Tanner has built a diverse portfolio of business roles including involvement in mergers and acquisitions advisory, fintech, life insurance and cyber security businesses.
