The Shadow Minister for Superannuation, Senator Mathias Cormann, has called on Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation Bill Shorten to stand up against further "taxes on people's superannuation".
Cormann said Shorten should listen to Labor MP Simon Crean, who according to media reports this morning warned the Government against further tax increases in the May Federal Budget.
"People across Australia saving for their retirement deserve certainty and stability in superannuation policy and taxation arrangements," Cormann said.
"Our policy objective must be to keep encouraging as many Australians as possible to save enough so they can look after their own needs in retirement and not be a burden on the public purse."
He added Labor should listen to Crean's advice to take a bipartisan approach and avoid taking any "negative unexpected changes to superannuation"
