Quantum Financial principal Claire Mackay has been appointed to the external advisory panel of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
As the first financial planning practitioner on the board, Mackay will represent the financial planning profession as ASIC beefs up surveillance of the advice arms of the big banks and financial services companies, and looks for quicker reporting of planner misconduct.
"Claire's extensive experience, particularly in the financial advice sector, will be a valuable resource for the panel," ASIC Chairman Greg Medcraft said.
Mackay is the youngest member of the panel, which includes former Australian Federal Treasurer Peter Costello, Chair of ASX and University of New South Wales chancellor David Gonski, Australian Super CEO Ian Silk, and former chair of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority John Laker.
Mackay is a member of the Australian Taxation Office's Superannuation Industry Relationship Network as a super and self-managed super fund expert representing the financial planning profession.
She won the pro bono award at Money Management and Super Review's Women in Financial Services Awards in 2013.
